Winter awakenings

As the new year begins, wildlife adapt to harsh conditions in many ways. Snowshoe hare, ptarmigan and ermine don their white winter coats. Pine squirrels tap their stored food cache, and bears slumber in a state of torpor. Birds of prey that do not migrate vary diets and increase home ranges. The strong, adaptable and savvy will survive in the wild, with a little luck. Homo sapiens also face tough conditions coming into a new year. Many have lost beloved relatives and friends. Some have encountered challenging economic conditions or dealt with illness and health issues. Many may have been betrayed by those once thought of as friends. In a world seemingly devoid of any moral map and compass, unfortunately this type of behavior occurs often.

The difference between health care, insurance

Merriam-Webster defines health care as “efforts made to maintain or restore health especially by trained and licensed professionals” and defines health insurance as “insurance against loss through illness of the insured; especially insurance providing compensation for medical expenses.” My purpose in identifying this distinction is to help Mr. Christians (Jan. 5, 2017) and many others, understand the difference between health care and health insurance.

Save Montana highway jobs

Shortly before Christmas, men and women across Montana were notified that the road construction projects they were depending on to put presents under the tree this year would be canceled. The jobs they were depending on to provide for their families in 2017 would be lost. The construction of critical state highway projects would be delayed or defunded altogether. Our highway fund is facing an unprecedented budget shortfall, and unfortunately it’s just one small part of the budget crisis that Governor Steve Bullock handed the 65th Legislature on day one.

Federal regulator halts move to toughen radiation exposure limits

Work has been halted on two rulemaking projects that would have reduced the amount of radiation the government permits workers and the public to be exposed to without their consent. The improved limits would have been in line with internationally accepted standards, Bloomberg BNA reports. A Nuclear Regulatory Commission announcement says stopping the process of setting stricter radiation exposure limits was “due to the high costs of implementing such changes.” The purpose of the NRC is to protect public and nuclear worker health and safety, but this time it’s just saving money for the nuclear industry.

When the word pain is mentioned, most of us think of something physical: shoulder pain, hip pain, headaches, back pain, fibromyalgia, etc… While these types of pain are certainly valid and should be addressed, there are other aspects to pain that cannot and should not be ignored. Government sponsored and politically correct big media are again pushing their “information dominance” practices once again seeking to control the publics perceptions of national political, social and economic struggles. Instead of taking responsibility for flawed representation, flawed policy, flawed individuals (both in elected offices and within US agencies as well as other complicit supporting publicly active influences whose agendas are not necessarily in the public’s best interest), these aristocratic bureaucrats manipulate the entire information stream to create an atmosphere most congenial to their aims.
