Foundation gives $1,000 to elementary food program

| January 10, 2017 12:04 PM

Lincoln County Community Foundation has given a $1,000 grant to the Morrison Elementary Backpack Program.

The backpack program works to provide packages of food to students at Morrison Elementary in Troy to take home over the weekend when other food sources are not available. The program has been in operation since February 2015.

Approximately 1,360 food packages were dispersed during the 2015-16 school year. They have partnered with the Troy Food Pantry to raise funds as a nonprofit and also receive support from them. The packages come from the Montana Food Bank Network pre assembled and are supplemented by fresh fruit and string cheese donated by Stein’s Market. This program provides nutritious meals to children who would otherwise go hungry. No child should be hungry. LCCF is proud to sponsor non-profits in south Lincoln County. Questions should be directed to Paula Darko-Hensler, LCCF chairman at 293-4838 or Andrea Huisentruit, Backpack Program Coordinator at 295-9665.
