The Libby Greenchain finished ninth on Friday during the Cutbank Tournament, but bounced back from tough draws on day one and racked up some team points in the wrestlebacks on Saturday.

“We figured that Cut Bank would be a challenging tournament and we weren’t disappointed,” Greenchain coach Kelly Morford said. “We got a lot of tough matches in and were able to see some of the really good B/C teams from the other side of the mountain that we don’t normally get to wrestle against. Despite the results, it was a great weekend for us in that sense.”

Buddy Doolin, weighing in at 103, finished first place and scored 30 team points, winning four matches.

“[Buddy Doolin] has been working really hard in the practice room to get better at a few fundamental things that cost him the match last time and it paid off,” Morford said. “He wrestled a really smart and technical match and put himself in a position to win it at the end. It was a big deal for Buddy to set the tone for State and he was really excited about that.”

Mason Sams won two out of four matches.

Trey Thompson won five out of seven matches.

“Trey also had a great tournament,” Morford said. “For a freshman to wrestle his way to a top 4 finish is really spectacular.”

Dylan Yeadon placed fifth, scoring 18 points for the team. He won four out of six matches.

Reed Christensen scored 11 team points, winning four of his six matches.

Michael Diller’s place is unknown but lost both of his matches.

Laine Young placed fifth and scored 17.5 team points, winning five of his seven matches.

“Dillon and Laine both had some tough matchups and won a few and lost a few of them,” Morford said. “As hard as it may be at the time, those losses are really what we can learn and grow from.”

Tim Carvey scored seven team points, winning two of his four matches.

Tanner Wood scored 0 team points, losing both of his two matches.

Cyrus Sweedman scored 0 team points, losing all four of his matches.

Clancy gout scored 11 team points, and won three of his five matches
