Spillway Vents
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have ramped up the spillway release at Libby Dam. On Friday morning, the roar of water cascading down the spillway and bouncing back was tremendous.
Spill Bottom
As water cascades down the spillway, it crashes into the spill basin where the water becomes turbulent and extremely oxygenated. At intervals on Saturday, the highly agitated water shot up six to eight feet above the basin. It is this process of highly oxygenated water, called gas-bubble trauma, that concerns fisheries biologists and its effects on various species.
