Loggers finish third as Cubs slam the door, 18-1

The Loggers finished third in the Clancey Ellis baseball tournament in Lewiston, Idaho, during the weekend, pushing their record to 20-19 and bracing themselves for a brutal stretch of league games.

Libby started uncharacteristically, jumping out ahead of the Longview, Wash., team and having to fend off a late rally to win 6-5. Will Reichel allowed four hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings pitched.

The next day, July 6, the Loggers showed some resilience as Micah Germany pitched a complete game, allowed three runs, and also went two-for-three at the plate in a 4-3 win over the Camas Prairie Zyphers.

Friday proved a good day for Germany, as he took the Hyrum (Utah) Trappers to the woodshed, going three-for-three and scoring three runs.

Unfortunately for Germany, the game ended in a 5-5 tie. The Loggers’ three errors were partially to blame for the Trappers playing so close.

And in a poor end to the weekend, Libby took on the Lewis and Clark Cubs and pitchers Cameron Burkes and Andrew Haggerty were shelled for 13 runs in the first inning. 

In the third mercy-rule game Libby has been on the wrong end of in two weeks, the Cubs slammed Libby 18-1 and ended the game before the bottom of the fifth.

The Cubs had 11 hits, but Loggers pitchers walked 10 more, causing rather inflated 7-inning ERAs.

The Loggers played a doubleheader against Kalispell on Monday evening, and play two against Kootenai Valley tonight.
