Life’s timing can be uncanny. Shortly after my grandfather passed away, I first saw the “Band of Brothers” miniseries, a story of men changed by their experiences, friendships, suffering, and the horrors of war. Through the show I came to see my grandfather in a different light. There was a story behind his service, but apart from the bits and pieces I picked up over the years, that story is lost forever.

The members of the Bull Lake Rod and Gun club would like to extend a big thank you to the Libby Scatterguns Club who held a fundraiser shoot on May 6 to help with the cost of rebuilding our club building that was destroyed by snow this past winter. They donated $600 to the Bull Lake Club and have been a big support in the past with our trap shoots.

William J. (Bill) Burriss, 81, a longtime Libby resident and lumber manufacturing employee, died Monday, May 22 in Libby. Born at Sykesville, Maryland to Frederick and Rose Burriss on December 13, 1935, he married Carol Hoffman December 4, 1965 in Idaho. He had been a dedicated and loyal employee, working in lumber manufacturing in Libby for multiple companies including the J. Neils Lumber Company, St. Regis Paper Company, Champion International, Louisiana Pacific and Plum Creek Lumber Companies as well as being a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union.

Lady Loggers win softball divisional, head for state

When deciding to take a journey, most would take the simplest path to their destination. Not the Libby Lady Loggers softball team. Sure they began that way, sweeping through two wins on Friday, first a 15-5 win over Loyola Sacred Heart and then a 3-2 win over Mission Valley Christian Academy. Saturday, however took a twist early with a loss to Florence-Carlton 6-5, putting Libby on a long path if they wanted a championship. They did. With another win over Loyola, the Lady Loggers had to take two in a row from Florence to win the title. They dominated, winning game one 11-3, and topping the Falcons again 12-10 to win divisionals and return to the state championship tournament after missing out last year.

Dick is survived by his mother; two sisters, JoAnn and Wutsie; and his brother, Joe Jr.; and all of their children; and his nieces and nephews, whom he loved.

I’m disturbed when I hear the constant appeal to class warfare, our baser instincts and the way in which personal and business success is treated as a crime against humanity. A trip to Libby for Friday and Saturday’s Montana Divisional Tournament was at stake. The Maidens rather abruptly gave an answer if question to the outcome of this game was pondered. By the end of the five-inning game the final score read 22-8 in Ronan’s favor.

Ethel Schrecengost went home to be with her Lord on April 19, 2017. Ethel was born Feb. 2, 1928, to Charles and Mary Bowers of Rochester Mills, Pennsylvania. Ethel grew up in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, attended school and graduated high school in 1944. She continued her education at Indiana School of Nursing, graduating in 1948 as a registered nurse.

Troy Softball Takes Two From Drummond

The Drummond High School softball team rolled into Troy Saturday with high hopes of ending a long streak of being on the wrong end of the score, and for half of the first game of the doubleheader, looked like they had every chance of doing just that. However the host Trojans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then shut down Drummond in the top of the fifth, winning 14-3. Troy kept the bats hot in the second game, plating 21 runs to end that game early as well, 21-11.
