Bill Burriss

William J. (Bill) Burriss, 81, a longtime Libby resident and lumber manufacturing employee, died Monday, May 22 in Libby. Born at Sykesville, Maryland to Frederick and Rose Burriss on December 13, 1935, he married Carol Hoffman December 4, 1965 in Idaho. He had been a dedicated and loyal employee, working in lumber manufacturing in Libby for multiple companies including the J. Neils Lumber Company, St. Regis Paper Company, Champion International, Louisiana Pacific and Plum Creek Lumber Companies as well as being a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union.

Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, getting firewood and camping; he was a loving uncle and a caring friend to many who will miss his presence greatly. He had been an involved member during his life of the Eagles, Good Sams, The Sons of Norway as well as Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of over 51 years, Carol; son Mark Gudmundson of Libby; his grandchildren, Leah Gudmundson of Libby and Cheyenne Gudmundson of Alaska; and great-grandson Jasper of Libby. Also surviving are sister-in-law Sharon Michels (Jerry) of Libby; brothers-in-law Fred Didier of Longview, Washington. and Leroy Hoffman of Buhl, Minnesota; and very special nephew Scott Hoffman (Jennifer) of Troy. Preceding Bill in death were his mother Rose Lorenz, brother Fred Burriss and step-daughter Veronica Gudmundson.

Services will be Tuesday, May 30 at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church. Visitation and viewing for friends and family will be from 11 a.m. to service time at the church. Memories and condolences may be shared online by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
