Greg Gianforte's motive to protect the rich

| May 23, 2017 4:00 AM

Both candidates for Montana’s at-large congressional seat have done well in their respective chosen careers. Greg Gianforte pursued wealth and is now a millionaire. Rob Quist pursued music and is now a well-known musician around the state.

I wonder why they are running for Congress? Mr. Gianforte has made lots of money. So why would he want to get involved in Washington politics? He has “made it.” He hasn’t been out crusading for middle-class causes, at least not until he ran for governor. It seems more likely he wants to go to Congress to protect the rich, like himself, and pursue tax breaks that will make himself and his wealthy friends even richer.

On the other hand, Mr. Quist, as a musician, has experienced a much tougher road to his success. He has experienced tough times making ends meet, unexpected health issues and the financial issues that come with that, and other issues that are common to most non-rich Montanans.

I feel Mr. Quist has a better understanding of what most people in Montana want and need. I am voting for Rob Quist. Vote on May 25.
