Dick Olson

| May 19, 2017 4:00 AM

Dick Olson’s journey ended on January 8, 2017. It began December 30, 1939 in Havre, with his parents Joe and Bertha, but he grew up on a ranch outside of Libby with his three siblings. Dick is survived by his mother; two sisters, JoAnn and Wutsie; and his brother, Joe Jr.; and all of their children; and his nieces and nephews, whom he loved.

Dick married the love of his life, Doris Kelsey, in October 1960, and together they raised six children: Tommy, Robin, Karen, Nita, Becky and Richy. They lived in Washington, Montana and then Oregon, where Doris passed away in 2009.

Dick was a grandfather to 14 grandkids; 30 great-grandkids; and five great-great-grandkids. He loved his family and would do anything for them.

Dick was a very hard worker. He loved life, and while rarely shaving his beard, was known to family and friends as Santa Claus, because of his cheerful, giving spirit. Dick was a welder by trade, working on heavy equipment, but he loved buying and selling tools and other items at flea markets and swap meets with Doris where they lived in Oregon. He loved country music, the Seattle Seahawks and going back to Montana to visit his family and watch the car show in August every year.

We celebrated his life at Thompson Creek on April 2, 2017. “

“And now I’m glad I didn’t know/The way it all would end, the way it all would go/Our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain/But I’d have had to miss the dance.” — Garth Brooks
