April is Alcohol Awareness Month
Having been raised in Libby, I know firsthand the prevalence of underage drinking in our community. Although a great student with a supportive family, I participated in this activity more than I’d like to admit, or to inform my parents (surprise mom and padre!). Looking back, I can honestly say that every bad decision I have ever made was under the influence of alcohol.

Our Lord called one of his most sweet and gentle souls’ home to rest on April 16, 2019. Jeanne Elizabeth Anderson, of Libby, passed away at the age of 76. She was born in Troy, Montana, on Nov. 2, 1942, to Lucile Rathbun and Harry “Thom” Pritchard. Jeanne was the oldest of five children. She grew up in Troy and attended Troy public schools.

A brush fire burned MontanaSky’s fiber optic cables by Swamp Creek on Monday, causing a temporary internet and cell service outage for Libby residents, According to a Montana Sky representative.
Volunteers continue work on potential tourist draw

25th annual STOKR coming May 11-12 Special performance from Boulder Creek Band May 11
When the idea was first put forward about having a bicycle tour in Libby as a fundraiser, there were many who were skeptical. The first year, 98 riders came for the Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River, and $7,614 was raised for Habitat for Humanity. This year there are 450 riders and over $37,000 will be raised.

Update on MHP Trooper Palmer
HELENA – Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Wade Palmer continues to receive medical treatment at University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. While he is showing indications that he recognizes certain people and things, all of his interactions remain non-verbal; he continues to interact with hand gestures and facial expressions. The extent of how much he understands remains unknown at this time. Nearly every day, Palmer undergoes physical therapy for continued strengthening of his left arm and leg. Limited movement has been detected on his right side. He is scheduled to have the wiring and screws from his reconstructive jaw surgery removed this week.

After a very long winter, spring has arrived in full swing and Libby’s volunteer Tree Board has been busy with pruning city trees, assessing winter tree damage, and preparing to celebrate Arbor Day. Libby is one of 3,400 towns (41 in Montana) that are part of the Tree City USA program that provides the framework for community forest management for cities and towns across America. Sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forest management: maintaining a tree board, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.
