The Libby Logger High School softball team suffered an early-season 10-0 defeat to the Frenchtown Broncs Saturday.

Libby couldn’t get a hit in the top of the first, and the Broncs captured the lead early with a run in the bottom of the inning.

During the inning, Libby junior Keira Ward gave up only one walk and the single hit that allowed Frenchtown to score on a linedrive to center field.

After again denying the Loggers a single hit in the top of the second, the Broncs came out swinging again in the bottom of the inning, this time scoring three runs.

Libby finally got a runner on base in the top of the third out of a walk, but with two outs already on the board, a groundout at second brought the Broncs back to bat.

Frenchtown made four more runs in the bottom of the inning with the two coming at the cost of outs for the Loggers, first off a sacrifice fly, and then off a ground out to Ward that she snapped off to senior Cerria Swagger at first.

The Broncs made their final run of the inning off of a Logger error before Ward closed it out the inning with a strikeout.

The Loggers had little more luck in the top of the fourth, though sophomore Taylor Holm singled on a grounder to center field, making the only hit of the game for Libby.

But before Holm could make it any further, the Broncs’ Claire Bagnell got the third out with a strikeout.

The Loggers pulled off a double play in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Emily Carvey snatched up a ground ball and threw it to Swagger at first for the first out. Swagger then fired it off to Holm at third for the second out.

But, Frenchtown’s Taylor Garren made it home, putting the Broncs into the game-ending 10-point lead.

A lineout, ground out and strikeout ended the game in the top of the fifth for the Loggers without any more runners making it on base.
