Frances Trotter

Frances Helen Joe Barton Trotter, 92, of Libby, Montana, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, with her family by her side.

Helen was born in Gracemont, Oklahoma, to Frank and Frances Daffron Barton on October 2, 1926. She attended Anadarko Public Schools before moving to Los Banos, California, and graduating from West Side Union High School in 1945. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University, San Jose State, Lane Community College and Merced College, earning her associate of arts degree in 1981.

Frances Helen Jo Barton married Loice Avin Trotter on January 31, 1948, in Los Banos, California. They moved to Eugene, Oregon, in 1964, back to Los Banos in 1976, then to Libby in 2001.

Helen is preceded in death by daughter Sheila Jo Trotter Jenkins in May 1972, grandson John Alexander Trotter in August 2001, Joseph Benjamin Franklin Barton in 1952, Frances Isabell Daffron Barton in 1971, Homer Franklin Barton in 1998, Bernice Barton Compton in 2001 and Violet Barton Pritchett in 2004.

She is survived by brother Bill Barton; children John A. Trotter (Dee); Lois Ann Thatcher (Ron); Nancy Trotter Higgins (Ron); grandchildren Benjamin Trotter Sutton (Erin), Aaron Ray Sutton (Victoria), Stephanie Anne Shuey, Steven L. Shuey and Katherine E. Trotter; great-grandchildren Gabriel Trotter Sutton, Stella Helen Sutton and Annissa Hope Sanford.

Private graveside services will be held at the Libby Cemetery with John Trotter officiating. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1548, 114 W. 2nd Street, Libby, MT 59923, or a charity of donor’s choice. The family of Helen wishes to extend a sincere thanks to our local hospice and a very special thank you to Mary Kay Rasmusson and Karyn Larsen.
