The Troy High School softball team came off of a series of losses to sweep a double header at Thompson Falls Tuesday, beating the Blue Hawks 21-2 and 8-7.

Troy had followed a 10-5 loss at home against Priest River April 11 with a double header at St. Ignatius where they were pummeled 18-6 and 26-8 on April 19.

But against Thompson Falls, the Trojans took an early lead in their first game with 2 runs in the first inning, holding Thompson Falls scoreless.

Senior Kaylee Tunison scored the first Trojan run on a passed ball in the top of the first, followed by sophomore Talise Becquart on another passed ball just before Thompson Falls’ Kelsey Frank ended the half inning with a strikeout.

Troy’s junior pitcher Mazzy Hermes held the Blue Hawks off in the bottom of the inning, with the only Thompson Falls base taken from a fielding error.

In the top of the second inning, Tunison made it on base with a line drive to second base, and Frank loaded the bases with walks. A walk for Becquart sent senior Paige Chapel home.

Senior Cami Finley followed with a line drive to center field, bringing in Tunison, and junior Izzy Ramirez followed her in on the throw. On the next play, Becquart scored on an error.

Junior Montana Rice came to bat, hitting a line drive to right field for a double that scored runs for both Finley and senior Tristyn Winebark.

The Blue Hawks had their first run in the bottom of the inning off a sacrifice groundout to Becquart at shortstop. Becquart ended the inning three plays later with a throw to Ramirez at second for a pick off.

The Trojans added another 3 runs in the top of the third, putting them up 11-1 over Thompson Falls. Senior Paige Chapel scored the first run on a walk, followed by Tunison on another. Becquart made it home on an error.

Frank made it to third base for the Blue Hawks in the bottom of the third, but the inning ended without a run scored for Thompson Falls.

In the top of the fourth, Tunison started the Trojan scoring off with a triple that brought Chapel home. Ramirez followed with a base hit on a fly ball to right field, scoring Tunison.

Winebark scored the next Troy run with a line drive single to center field, bringing in Ramirez, and Becquart had the final run of the inning off a passed ball.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Blue Hawks had their only other run when Riley Wilson made a base hit off a grounder to the mound, sending teammate Belle Cooper home.

With the Trojans already up 15-2 going into the top of the fifth, Finley socked a line drive into center field for a triple with the bases loaded, scoring Chapel, Tunison and Ramirez.

Rice followed with a base hit on a hard ground ball to center field to send Finley home, and three batters later, Chapel hit a line drive down the center for a double. Bringing in Winebark and Rice for the final score, 21-2.

Going into the second game, Hermes held the Blue Hawks to no hits and one walk in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Tunison reached home from third after a line-out to centerfield by Becquart, and Ramirez scored on a grounder by Finley.

The Trojans held Thompson Falls scoreless again in the top of the second, with the final out on a pick play, when Hermes snapped the ball to Winebark at first.

But the Troy bats weren’t as strong in the bottom of the inning, and the second inning ended with no runs for either team.

The Blue Hawks came into the lead in the top of the third, overtaking Troy 6-2 before Hermes could close out the half inning with a strikeout.

In the bottom of the inning, the Trojans pushed back, with Ramirez scoring on the throw after a base hit for Finley, and Finley came home off a line drive by Rice to center field.

The Troy defense held Thompson Falls off in the top of the fourth, but made no progress in the bottom of the inning, leaving the Blue Hawks in the lead, 6-5.

Troy held off Thompson Falls again in the top of the fifth, and in the bottom of the inning the Trojan bats came alive to retake the lead.

A line drive double by Winebark scored a run for Ramirez, and Finley followed her in on the throw. On the next play, a grounder to third by Rice sent in Winebark.

Thompson Falls managed one more run in the top of the sixth, but were unable to get anything more out of the Trojans.

With no more runs scored the rest of the game, Troy ended with an 8-7 win.
