Fireworks ban for Lincoln County in effect at midnight
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday morning banning the ignition of any open fire within the unincorporated areas of the county. The restrictions also prohibit the ignition of all fireworks in the county outside of the incorporated limits of cities within the county. The resolution, No. 938, goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Commissioners considering fire restrictions
Unseasonably high temperatures have combined with unusually low snowpack to create an extreme fire danger in the inland northwest. The risk has elevated to such a level as to push the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners to consider restrictions on the discharge of personal fireworks during the coming holiday weekend.

The 57th annual Libby Logger Days was held over the weekend. The heat didn’t stop people from enjoying the weekend festivities. Those that were brave enough to leave their air-conditioned homes were treated to entertaining events.
Commissioners ask for LiV grant extension
LiV Golf Cars could have an extra year to fulfill its promise to employ 22 people at its Libby manufacturing facility, if the Montana Department of Commerce approves the request made by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners. Last week the commissioners sent a letter to the department asking for an extension of the company’s $368,000 community development block grant, which was set to expire July 2.

A Libby man convicted of sexually assaulting two 14-year-olds was given more prison time after he skipped his first sentencing hearing.

A Troy man arrested in May after absconding from probation last fall won’t get another shot at probation, District Judge James Wheelis ruled on Monday.

Loggers claim Big Buck$ championship
The Libby Loggers won the Big Buck$ Tournament this weekend. The Loggers beat the Strathmore Reds 3-1 in the championship game Sunday at Lee Gehring Field.
Dinner and fun at the Senior Center in July
The Senior Center in Libby offers a variety of meals for seniors in the area. Dinners are served at 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and lunches are served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesdays.

The Lincoln County Public Libraries have a full calendar of events scheduled for July. All library events are free and open to the public.

Ten Lakes alternative proposed
Two local groups have filed an alternate proposal to the Forest Service’s Ten Lakes Travel Management Plan, which was released in April. 'No violation' in email use, attorney said
At the request of the Board of Commissioners for Lincoln County, attorney Jonathan Smith reviewed several emails sent between Bill Bischoff, a county employee and Libby City Councilman, and several current and former members of the Libby City Council, as well as Libby Mayor Doug Roll. Smith’s review concluded there were no violations of either statute or policy in Bischoff’s use of county email servers.
Troy hosts annual Timber Beast
The Timber Beast Disc Golf Tournament was held in Troy Saturday, June 20. There were 124 participants that came from all over the Pacific Northwest.
Report criticizes EPA demolition protocols
The Inspector General of the Environmental Protection Agency released a report last week recommending the agency update its guidance with regard to the demolition of asbestos-contaminated buildings. Studies conducted by the Office of the Inspector General demonstrated the demolition of contaminated structures could pose a potential human health risk due to the release of asbestos fibers in runoff wastewater.

Marilyn Claire Collum, 84, of Libby, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Mountain View Manor in Eureka. She was born September 13, 1930, in Great Falls to Arthur and Belle Boettcher. She grew up in the Square Butte area. Marilyn received her education at a rural school there and graduated from Geraldine High School in 1949. She got her BA in Education at Western Montana College in Dillon.
County expenditures under scrutiny
The Board of Commissioners for Lincoln County has received the budget requests from the various departments of the county and is now working to finalize the budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, which begins July 1. Preliminary budget requests from the county departments total $10,628,837, which is up from last year’s appropriation of $9,830,645.

Libby man denies theft chargers
A 57-year-old Libby man pleaded not guilty Monday in district court to felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident this spring in which he allegedly stole guns, cash and an ATM card from the residence of an acquaintance.
