Kayley Robertson is turning her hobby into a profession and she hopes it works out. Robertson just opened up her own quilt shop, The Quilt Cottage, located at 907 Mineral Avenue in Libby.

“I love quilting, it’s my absolute favorite pastime and hobby,” Robertson said.

Robertson has been in Libby since first grade. After graduating from Libby High School she was looking for an adventure. She left Libby to go to school in Fredericksburg, Va. When she was back from school one summer she met her husband-to-be and decided not to go back.

There is a classroom in the back of her store and Robertson hopes to teach classes starting in the fall. “I love kids, I love people. If I were to go back to school it would be for teaching. So this will be a good fit for me,” Robertson said. “I would like to do the classes sooner, but people are busy during the summer. But I’d like to start doing classes in September,” Robertson said.

The cost of the classes will not be expensive. “They can buy the pattern and the fabric here and there will be a small surcharge,” Robertson said. “We will also have open sewing days, where people can bring in their own projects and sit back and gab. It’s like guys getting together to drink beer and hang out.” Robertson said.

The store is currently open for business, but there will be a Grand Opening Party on Saturday, June 20, from noon until 4 p.m. There will be food, drinks and prizes. “There will be door prizes. My husband will be grilling hot dogs. It’s for people to come see the shop and have a good time,” Robertson said.

“The fact that I grew up here will help. I don’t know everybody, but I feel like I know everybody,” Robertson said.

Robertson said it’s been a lot of hard work to get the shop ready. “It’s been a lot of work to get it ready, but it will be fun.”
