Wrong question asked

Regarding the recent heated exchanges on climate change, I think the wrong question is being asked. It should NOT be, “Who is right?”; rather, it should be, “What if you are wrong?” If the climate change deniers are wrong and we make little or no efforts to minimize its effects, the world faces the maximum risk — oceans will continue to rise, weather extremes will become common place, and famine and diaspora will become common. If the climate change advocates are wrong but we make the efforts they advocated, the world will face minimum risk and will benefit from cleaner air and water and better energy technology.

The American West is burning

Hurricanes such as Harvey, Irma and Maria are unstoppable. They rip at our coastlines and tear at our hearts. The yellow, orange, red, even purple colors on the Doppler radar and weather maps this summer have been horrific to see, but that’s nothing compared to the images of flooded streets and wrecked homes. Those images inspired Americans to band together and do what we could for our neighbors in the South. In crises such as these, Americans show what they’re truly made of: unwavering resolve and kind hearts.

What to do about forest fires

Does the U.S. Forest Service have any kind of plan on what steps to take in case of a hot dry fire season like this year’s for next year? It seems to me they are surprised every time this occurs. Facts matter when it comes to addressing wildfires

Montana is on fire, we’ve been breathing smoke for months, and it’s human nature to look for someone or something to blame, such as environmentalists or the Forest Service. But the fact is we can’t log our way out, we can’t fight our way out, we can only burn our way out through ongoing fuels treatments. Forest management is complex:

West Fork and Moose Peak fires 'It looks like our summer fire season has been shut down' Firefighters welcome rain and resources as county winds down call center

The West Fork fire isn’t out yet, but with the change in the weather, the steady arrival of resources and the diminishing threat to structures, some aspects of fire operations are winding down — two daily fire briefings are ending, for example, and the emergency operations center is no longer staffed, though a phone line is being forwarded to county offices.

GORDON CHRISTIANSON and JOAN CHRISTIANSON, as Grantors, conveyed said real property to Lincoln County Title Co, as Trustee, to secure an obligation owed to Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems, Inc., solely as nominee for American Homestead Mortgage, LLC, as Beneficiary, by Deed of Trust dated on December 21, 2011, and recorded on December 27, 2011 in Book 340, Page 496 Document No. 236610. The beneficial interest is currently held by Lakeview Loan Servicing, LLC . First American Title Company of Montana, Inc., is the Successor Trustee pursuant to a Substitution of Trustee recorded in the office of the Clerk and Recorder of Lincoln County, Montana. The beneficiary has declared a default in the terms of said Deed of Trust by failing to make the monthly payments beginning August 1, 2016, and each month subsequent, which monthly installments would have been applied on the principal and interest due on said obligation and other charges against the property or loan. The sale purchaser shall be entitled to possession of the property on the 10th day following the sale. The grantor, successor in interest to the grantor or any other person having an interest in the property, at any time prior to the trustee's sale, may pay to the beneficiary or the successor in interest to the beneficiary the entire amount then due under the deed of trust and the obligation secured thereby (including costs and expenses actually incurred and attorney's fees) other than such portion of the principal as would not then be due had no default occurred and thereby cure the default. The scheduled Trustee's Sale may be postponed by public proclamation up to 15 days for any reason, and in the event of a bankruptcy filing, the sale may be postponed by the trustee for up to 120 days by public proclamation at least every 30 days. Please thank our tireless firefighters

In the pitch dark, with layers of smoke blocking out the moon and stars, a lone driver takes off on a mission. He meanders his pickup through a maze of old logging roads that would trap a man easily. He feels a slight adrenaline rush of the fight or flight syndrome as he encounters ridiculously steep drop offs at every switchback. It’s a long, treacherous drive, and as he approaches an alder tunnel he fears he has missed his drop point. There are no turnouts on the hill where the Bay Horse fire is active. The old road warrior continues through the brushed in access road in hopes of finding the initial attack team that is spike camped out for the night. Busting through the one last bottleneck of vegetation, the wheel man arrives at the bivouacked squad’s location. Justin Figgins’s exhausted, black-faced crew are glad to see the driver, who has hot meals, Gatorade and other goodies, as well as humorous comments for the men and women of this squad.
