Libby and Troy compete at Top 8 Meet in Eureka

Libby Loggers track teams finished strong at the Class C Top 8 Meet. The Lady Loggers had a very successful day in Eureka. Sidney Stevenson finished the 200 with a time of 28:18. Lauren Thorstenson again placed first in two events, the 1,600 and 3,200. Emma Gruber pulled down two first place wins in 100 and 300 hurdles. Abigail Creighton took firstß in the long jump with 14-10. Ella Pierce, Sarah Pierce and Sarah Shadden placed in the top eight for Troy.

The community of Libby has great reason to be extremely proud of your high school tennis team, Coach Hannah and his assistant coaches, parents and supporters of Logger tennis. We were pleased to attend their Invitational this past Saturday. Not only were our players housed and treated to dinner and breakfast but were afforded the opportunity to compete in both duals and a full day tournament of good tennis. Jury says guilty in animal-cruelty trial

When Cathie Warren was served with a warrant on August 2 last year, she had on her Libby property a veritable menagerie of animals, including 53 dogs, donkeys, horses, birds, goats and cats. After members of the sheriff’s department, a veterinarian, a representative of the Humane Society and animal control officers walked through the property and inspected the animals, all of the animals were seized due to concerns about their health and safety in Warren’s care.

Libby Logger tennis hosted the Bigfork Vikes and Vals on Tuesday, April 18. The Logger boys split the match with the Vikings 3-3. Jhamaal Sykes, No. 1 singles player, came up with the only singles win of the day 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 against Alex Buenz from Bigfork. To finish the boys side both doubles teams for the Loggers chalked up a win. Ryan Nagle and Gio Cano defeated Clayton Reichenbach and Grant Gibson 6-4, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles team of Zach Carter and Dameon Kelch had a solid win over Bigfork’s Cole Heider and Ben Johnson, 6-4, 6-3.

The trial of Cathie Warren went ahead this week, beginning Tuesday, April 18 and continuing with jury deliberation beginning Wednesday at 4 p.m. and continuing through Thursday. Warren is charged by the state of Montana with 5 counts of aggravated animal cruelty, a felony, punishable by up to two years imprisonment and a fine not exceeding $2,500, or both.

The Lady Trojans took on the Anaconda Copperheads, Saturday, April 8 in a double header. In game one the Copperheads took the game in five innings by a score of 13-1. The Lady Trojan’s second baseman Grace Dolan and catcher Kaylee Tunison went one hit with three at bats. Taylor Carter also had one hit with one at bat. Dolan had the lone RBI for the Lady Trojans. The Copperheads had 10 hits with four RBI’s which contributed to the win over the Lady Trojans. Micheala Cortright was the winning pitcher for the Copperheads.

Virginia Mary Beccari Beaulieu age 94 of Libby passed away peacefully in her home on March 23, 2017. She was born on August 23, 1922 in Missoula to Julius and Madalena Beccari who brought their rich Italian heritage and culture to the mountains of Montana. At an early age her family moved from Missoula to Ravenna, Montana and then to Libby where she attended Libby Public Schools. She earned her degree in nursing from St. Patrick’s School of Nursing in Missoula. While serving as a U.S. Army Nurse in California during World War II she met Thomas James Beaulieu.

Ruth Shepard, 95, of Libby died peacefully at Libby Care Center on March 24, 2017, at the age of 95 years old. She was born on September 2, 1921 at Highland Falls, New York to Joseph and Ella Pavek, Sr. She lived most of her life in Burney, Cali. She was very active in St. Francis Catholic Church in Burney. She has led a long active life. She was a wife, mother and a caregiver for the Churney children and the Cunningham children. She was known as Grandma Ruth by them all.
