Lincoln County Library events in May

The Lincoln County Public Libraries will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of May. All events are free and open to the public.

Capitol Christmas Tree Ornament Making: The Kootenai National Forest will be supplying the Capitol Christmas Tree this year. Join us at any branch library in Eureka, Libby or Troy to make ornaments to decorate the trees and show off the “beauty of the big sky.” A special ornament will be featured each month and supplies for the ornaments will be provided while they last. Please call the library for details.

The Eureka library will host story time for preschool age children every Tuesday 11:30 a.m. to noon.

The Eureka library will ornaments for the Capitol Christmas Tree every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m.

The Libby library will host story time for preschool age children Tuesdays at 10 a.m. This month’s theme is “Dive In.”

The Troy library will host story time through May 19 and then go on summer hiatus until the fall. Story time for preschool age children is Fridays at 11:15 a.m.

The Troy library will host chess games Saturdays from 11:30 to 2 p.m. All ages and experience levels welcome. Bring yourself, a partner, and your favorite board. We will have boards available as well as a player/teacher/mentor and challenger. For more information please call Stacy at (406) 295-4040.

May 2, 10 a.m.: Preschool Story Time: join us at the Libby library as we go to the beach. We’ll listen to the sound of rolling waves while we play in the sand.

May 5, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Book Sale: the Libby Friends of the Library are having a book sale. The entrance is on Main Street across from the post office. Stop by and check out the books, movies and music CDs. It’s a great way to support your library.

May 9, 10 a.m.: Preschool Story Time: join us at the Libby library as we paddle along with Little Fish on a mesmerizing underwater tour of fish friends: spotty and stripy, hairy and scary, even curly whirly and twisty twirly.

May 11, 6 p.m.: Poetry Extravaganza. Join us at Aunt T’s Coffee Shop in Libby for an evening with Montana’s Poet Laureate Earl Craig and poet Adrian Kien, which will include a reading and Q&A session. Afterward find out the winners of the 11th Annual Lincoln County Poetry Contest. Winning poems will be read and prizes awarded. An open mic session will follow, so bring you poems, guitar, drums and singing voice. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Aunt T’s Coffee Shop.

May 16, 10 a.m.: Preschool Story Time: join us at the Libby library as we follow an elusive seahorse as he swims through different underwater environments and meets with a colorful kaleidoscope of sea creatures including sea anemones, crabs, starfish, eels and octopuses.

May 20, 11 a.m.: Book Discussion: join us at the Libby Library for “A Hot Drink and A Good Book,” our monthly book discussion. This month features “Infidel” by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Hirsi Ali’s memoir describes her childhood and coming of age in a strict Muslim family in Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Kenya, surviving civil war, and having an arranged marriage before escaping to the Netherlands. Copies are available at the library.

May 20, 1 p.m.: Writing Group: the last writing group until the summer hiatus. Meet other aspiring local writers at the Libby library. Writers of all genres and experience levels are welcome to write, share and learn. Fuel your creativity with writing prompts and brief writing exercises with opportunities to share and discuss as a group.

May 23, 10 a.m.: Preschool Story Time: join us at the Libby library for an underwater search for the perfect home. Hermit Crab grows out of one house after another until he finds just the right one.

May 26: Amnesty Day: the last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Public Libraries. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.

May 27: Closed for Memorial Day.

May 30, 10 a.m.: Preschool Story Time: join us at the Libby library as we swim with Smiley Shark, the biggest and friendliest shark in the ocean.
