Mark Wick's reply to Rob Quist's tax liens
Recently it was discovered that Rob Quist had tax liens filed against him by the State of Montana and it was turned into political fodder. I am not going to condemn Mr. Quist. Like many working Montanan’s not everything has gone as planned in his life. Sometimes no matter how you plan the world just doesn’t cooperate. Unexpected bills can happen at any time and expected payments usually are farther away than anticipated. Welcome to the real world folks. This is where most working Montana families live all the time.

Corey Stapleton, Montana’s secretary of state, passed through Libby last week on the third stop of his two-year “Things that Matter Tour,” in which he plans to visit all 56 of Montana’s counties to learn from citizens how his office can best serve them.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Montana's bolo tie-wearing former governor is teaming up with an unlikely ally — a New York hedge fund — to seek control of a precious metals mining company that has sunk more than $500 million into projects deemed questionable in Canada and Argentina.

A Montana Highway Patrolman who was stationed in Libby for nearly 12 years is retiring after 25 years of service. Patrolman Barney Carey of Bozeman joined the highway patrol in Plentywood in 1948. After serving on the force for 3-1/2 years at Plentywood, Carey transferred to Libby, where he was stationed for nearly 9 years before moving to Bozeman. At the time Carey started the Montana Highway Patrol had a force of 65 men to cover the entire state. The patrol now has about 190 members. During his years on the force Carey said he has driven 13 Fords, three Hudsons, one Chevrolet, two Plymouths and a Dodge. Photo from the June 15, 1972, files of The Western News.
