It was there to help stop any hazmat from getting into intake pipes for the Twin Rivers Hatchery. While the intake pipes were shut down, the boom was installed as a precautionary measure, officials said.

BONNERS FERRY — A rockslide likely caused the derailment of a mile-long BNSF Railway train Wednesday night, sending an engine with its two-person crew plunging into the Kootenai River.
