Rep. Jack Bergman of Michigan, left, and Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte, right, pose with Loice “LA” Trotter in his Libby home Saturday, April 14, after presenting Trotter with the Montana Congressional Veteran Commendation and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in the veteran’s honor on Veterans Day. Trotter was one of 14 Montana veterans to receive the commendation, a program Gianforte launched last October to recognize Montana veterans who served their country and then served their communities after leaving the military. According to Tom Schultz, the Congressman’s Montana press secretary, Trotter joined the U.S. Army Air Corps at the start of the Second World War and served in the Pacific Theater. During the Japanese invasion of the Philippine Islands, Trotter was captured and held for 40 months. Trotter, who turns 100 this summer, has been a member of the VFW and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and has helped on various building projects. Schultz also noted that Bergman is a retired U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant general and a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. (Courtesy photo)
