About 2 a.m. Saturday, Libby volunteer firefighters were called to the Haul Bridge spanning the Kootenai River near East Fifth Street for a fire that was “burning pretty good when we got there,” said Second Assistant Chief/Training Officer Scott Beagle. Luckily, he said, a Burlington Northern Railroad crew was nearby and able to attack the fire from beneath with water and foam. Beagle said firefighters then “topped it off” with water from above and were able to fully extinguish it. The Fire Department suspects lingering and smoldering fireworks, not arson, as the cause, Beagle said. (Courtesy Photo)
