Loggers open season with 54-8 thrashing of Browning
The host Libby Loggers opened the 2025 season with an easy 54-8 win over the Browning Indians Friday night at Logger Stadium.
A lightning delay prior to kickoff didn’t do anything to slow the Loggers as they won their eighth straight contest over Browning.
Just 1:38 into the game, senior Ian Thom ran for the first of his two first-half touchdowns. The 12-yarder made it 6-0 and senior quarterback Tristan Andersen ran for the conversion to make it 8-0.
The Indians answered with their only TD of the game a few minutes later, but missed the conversion.
Andersen, who ran for two touchdowns and passed for two in the first half, scored his first TD on a 15-yard jaunt with 6:20 left in the first half to make it 14-6.
The Loggers defense forced an Indians punt and senior Bransen Holzer had a good return to set Libby up at the Browning 24-yard line. A few plays later, Andersen found Isaac Lamere for a 12-yard TD pass to make it 20-6 with 3:20 left.
On Browning’s next possession, a long run put the Indians on the opponent 29, but soon after a fumble following a completed pass gave the ball back to the Loggers.
Libby eventually punted and its defense forced the Indians to line up to punt. But the kicker bobbled the snap and Logger senior Urijah Bache made the tackle to give the Loggers the ball at the Browning 40.
On the very next play, Andersen got to the edge and outraced the defenders for a 40-yard TD with 11:47 left in the second to make it 26-6.
The Loggers stopped Browning on downs at its 40. Andersen then hit Holzer for a 38-yard catch and Thom ran it in from two yards out. Andersen ran for the conversion to make it 34-6.
With just 1:24 left in the half, Holzer made another big play with an interception deep in Logger territory.
Forty-eight seconds later, Andersen hit Lamere for another TD pass to make it 40-6 at the half.
The Loggers (1-0) host Stevensville at 7 p.m. Friday while Browning hosts Ronan, also at 7 p.m. Friday.
