Troy tennis caps season with state experience in Missoula
After a breakout divisional tournament performance that sent seven Lady Trojans to the Class B/C State Tennis Tournament, Troy saw its postseason run come to a close in Missoula last week as players battled tough draws and early exits.
In singles play, Jolene Foutch, Shelby Cole and Miley Babcock each dropped their opening round matches and were unable to advance through the consolation bracket. Despite the early losses, the experience marked a significant step forward for a program with so many players at state.
On the doubles side, both Troy teams faced similar outcomes. Christina Hammer and Brooke Place lost their first match and were eliminated in their consolation match, while Sophia Simanovicki and Abby Kreutzer also went 0-2.
The results didn’t diminish the strides the Lady Trojans made throughout the season. The group earned their state berths after placing in the top six at the Northwest B Divisional Tournament, where all seven players contributed to one of the strongest team showings in recent program history.
The state tournament experience marked the end of a season that saw seniors like Babcock finish with a standout postseason. Her three-match run to the Best of the West final earlier this spring, along with Foutch’s divisional rally, highlighted the team’s growing depth and competitive edge.
While none of the Lady Trojans advanced beyond the first day at state, their presence in Missoula reflected the gains made across the season.
