In a significant development for its local members, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the formation of a new Stake based in Bonners Ferry. Previously part of the Sandpoint Stake, the Bonners Ferry Stake will include congregations based in Bonners Ferry, Moyie Springs, and Selle Valley in Idaho, as well as congregations from Troy and Libby in Montana.

The new Stake marks a significant milestone in the Church’s growth and organization within these communities.

A stake is a group of congregations, known as wards and branches, that work together like a Catholic diocese that oversees both the spiritual and administrative affairs of the area.

The new Bonners Ferry Stake was officially organized during a special conference held April 12th-13th. Leaders from the Church’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, were in attendance to oversee the proceedings and call local members to serve in new leadership roles.

This development reflects not only an increase in membership but also a growing spirit of service, unity, and faith among local Church members. The new Stake will help streamline resources, provide additional support to individuals and families, and allow for greater outreach in the surrounding areas.

The newly formed Stake is led by a Stake President and his two counselors, who bring diverse backgrounds and experiences in their roles as unpaid clergy. Taylor Williams, age 37 and a Family Medicine physician, was called to serve as the President of the new Stake.

Trevor Kempton, age 49 and a Dental Lab Technician, serves as his First Counselor, and Munro Murdock, age 47 and a business owner, serves as his Second Counselor.

“We’re thrilled to see the Church continue to grow here,” said President Williams. “This new Stake will help us better serve our members and our neighbors as we strive to follow Jesus Christ and build strong, caring communities.”

The Church extends an open invitation to all in the community who are interested in learning more or participating in upcoming worship services and events. Additional information about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be found at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org.
