| May 16, 2025 7:00 AM

Richard (Dick) Jess Hoyer passed away on May 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Dick was born on May 11, 1951, in the charming town of Belt, Montana, to parents Marian and Jess Hoyer. As the youngest of four siblings – Donn, Jerry, and Carolynn – Dick grew up in a household full of adventure.

He attended and proudly graduated from Belt Valley High School in 1969, leaving behind a legacy in athleticism, playing basketball and participating in track. He also played trumpet in the high school band.

Believing in living life to the fullest, Dick had a laugh that was contagious. His outgoing personality drew people to him and he was always ready with a helping hand for anyone in need.

He was a passionate Raiders fan, always cheering on his team. While living and working in Billings at Bob Smith Lincoln Mercury, he met and married Constance Malone and had his son, Chase, while also gaining a stepson, Hunter. Family meant everything to Dick, and every moment spent with them was a treasure.

Eventually, Dick ventured to Libby, Montana, where he realized his dream and opened Chase Motors, named in honor of his son. It was there he met his significant other, Gayle, adding another chapter to his life’s story.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marian and Jess Hoyer; and brothers Donn Hoyer and Jerry Hoyer.

He is survived by his son Chase Hoyer; stepson Hunter Merriman (Jaimie); significant other Gayle Richards; sister Carolynn Frank; sisters-in-law Nina Hoyer (Jerry) and Carol Hoyer (Donn); and several nieces and nephews all of whom he loved.

Though Dick may no longer live among us, his spirit will forever resonate in the laughter and love he shared. Let us honor his legacy by living life to the fullest, just as he taught us to do.

A celebration of life is planned for this fall in Belt, Montana.
