Saturday, May 3
The Libby tennis teams fought hard in a home match at Columbia Falls on Saturday, May 3, but ultimately fell in a competitive outing. The boys dropped a 6-1 decision, while the girls came up short 5-2.
For the Libby girls, Maggie Fantozzi and Marisa Hollingsworth earned key singles wins. Fantozzi rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Bailey Windauer 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Hollingsworth followed with a consistent performance in a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ella Heppner.
Despite the early success in singles, Libby was unable to carry the momentum into doubles play, where Columbia Falls swept all three matches. The pairings of Bella Meyer and Aubrey Davis, Shya Huck and Augie Bailey, and Mara Maurer with Kayla Messenblink all put up strong efforts but couldn’t overcome the Wildcats’ depth.
On the boys side, Ryan Beagle gave the Loggers their lone victory of the day, turning in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Will Pickard. Beagle controlled the pace from start to finish, giving Libby early momentum.
Libby’s Erik Thompson opened his match strong with a 6-2 first-set win but was edged in the next two sets by Columbia Falls’ Bruno Vazquez, who turned the tables with a 6-0, 6-4 comeback.
The doubles teams of Blaise Erickson and Isaac Lamere, Cole Sunell and Jon Cano, and Dayton Hauly with Alex Reatz all played competitive matches but came up short.
