Making Canada 51st may not be such a bad idea

| March 28, 2025 7:00 AM

I never thought I would agree with Donald Trump on anything, but among all his bat-crap crazy ideas, I’m thinking making Canada our 51st state may not be so bad.

Not that I expect that we will ever actually annex Greenland, seize Panama, or turn the Gaza Strip into a Trump Empire luxury resort; with all the insanity that has happened in the last two months, you never know?

Who would have ever dreamed our country would be run by a deranged rich guy and an unelected mentally imbalanced richer guy? I imagine Thomas Jefferson and George Washington would be spinning in their graves if they could see how far America has digressed, possibly into oblivion!

Trump’s platform, that 74 million Americans voted for, is based on power, self serving revenge, greed, and racism. Screw the democracy and freedom our founders risked their lives and fortunes for. As a fellow American, I’m ashamed.

Ignoring the HUGE deficit, that every one of us is paying for, the looming tax cut is only going to make things worse. The rich are only going to get richer (as if $400 billion isn’t enough) while 27% of Seniors (of which I am one) are living below poverty level. Look it up. I did.

But I find it humorous that Donald Trump, who is a self-proclaimed, “Really smart guy” hasn’t thought this out. If we make Canada the 51st State, that will add about 40 million U.S. citizens to our population.

With some simple arithmetic and really rough numbers; with our current population of about 340 million, we have 535 Representatives and Senators. Adding the Canucks (full of minorities, immigrants, and Indians) should translate to about 65 more legislators in Congress.

I have no idea if they would align with Democrats or Republicans, but after Trump has thoroughly (pardon my language) pissed off our neighbors to the north, I seriously doubt there’s going to be a run on MAGA hats. Also my thinking is that Canadians tend to be “Progressive” and I doubt they’re going to budge on giving up their Universal Health Care. The Donald’s dream of trashing Obamacare and King Elon’s vision of cutting our social “Safety Nets” will fade into the sunset.

Also the spineless Republican majority of undying loyalty and fealty to their Fuhrer will be no more, (including our own Moe, Larry, and Sheehy).

Lastly, with the new “Americans” on board, I wonder if they will bring along their own Constitution. Different than ours, but seeing ours is no longer relevant, it couldn’t be worse. I wonder if their Premier is immune from prosecution for any wrong doing? I doubt it because no sane Democracy would allow such a thing.

So I say my hat’s off to Trump with his 51st State idea (or maybe it’s just a “concept” of one). There is no doubt in my mind that it will fly because as he says (and I quote), after going to the Wharton School of Business, he’s “Full of super genius stuff”.

So with luck, Goodbye Donald. And take Elon with you.
