Personal records fall for troy at Bonners Ferry Invite
The Troy High School track and field team put forth a strong showing at the Bonners Ferry Invite held in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on Saturday, March 22, among Big Idaho and Washington schools.
Junior Nolan Morris had an outstanding day, earning runner-up honors in both the boys' 800-meter race and the javelin throw. Morris demonstrated his versatility, completing the 800-meter run in an impressive time of 2:09.97, narrowly missing the top spot. He followed up on the field with a personal-best javelin throw of 118 feet, three-quarters of an inch, securing another second-place finish and underlining his value to the team across multiple events.
In the long-distance events, Dimitrii Walenter showcased significant improvement in the boys' 3,200-meter race, finishing eighth overall. Walenter crossed the finish line in 11:49.20, a personal record that marked his best performance yet.
Troy’s boys' 4x400-meter relay team also shined brightly, earning second place in a highly competitive field. The relay squad consisting of Kempton Sloan, Dimitrii Walenter, Michael Gillespie and Nolan Morris displayed impressive teamwork and resilience, clocking a collective time of 3:58.60.
Senior Kempton Sloan made his mark in multiple events, securing fourth place in the boys' high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. Sloan continued to impress in the long jump, landing at 18 feet, 4 inches to achieve a new personal record and finish sixth overall. Nolan Morris joined Sloan in the long jump event, finishing ninth with his own personal-best jump of 17 feet, 6 inches.
On the girls' side, senior Cortenie Rogers delivered a remarkable effort in the triple jump, landing a distance of 29 feet, 10 inches. Her third-place finish marked another personal record for Troy athletes at the meet, emphasizing the team’s consistent improvement.
In the girls' 1600-meter race, Jaylee Meyers ran a strong and consistent race, finishing seventh with a time of 6:29.78.
