The warm relationship between the Troy VFW and Troy Public Schools continued last week when some amazing students and teachers were recognized Thursday, March 6 for their accomplishments.

Winners of the local Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy writing contest were honored with pins and cash rewards for their essays.

Established in 1947, the VFW's Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.  Each year, nearly 25,000 ninth through 12th grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
