A new Dollar General store is expected to open in Troy sometime later in March.

Troy Deputy Clerk Chera Cole said store officials told her the tentative opening for the store is mid-March.

It will be the third location in Lincoln County. Dollar General stores in Libby and Eureka opened a little more than a year ago.

The company is advertising for full and part time jobs, including temporary store clerk, store manager, assistant manager and sales associates, on their website https://careers.dollargeneral.com/jobs?keywords=&location=Troy%20Montana.

Troy City Council approved a business license for the operation at its last meeting in February.

According to company officials, they are currently in the final construction phase for the new store in Troy at 1308 Twilight Lane.

“Based on our current timeline, we anticipate the store to open by mid March and to host a grand opening celebration approximately three to four weeks later,” officials said in a press release.

The store plans to employ approximately six to 10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store. “Additionally, we take a number of factors into consideration when choosing where to add new stores, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers’ price, value and selection needs,” they said. “We believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic benefits including additional access to affordable products for customers; the creation of new jobs for local residents and career development opportunities for our employees; the generation of additional tax revenue for the City; and the ability for local nonprofits, schools and libraries to apply for literacy and education grants through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.”

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation, awards grants each year to nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer and youth literacy programs.

Since its inception in 1993, the DGLF has awarded more than $250 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping nearly 22 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.  For more information about the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and its grant programs, visit www.dgliteracy.com.

Founded in 1939, Dollar General states that its mission is serving others daily by providing access to affordable products and services for its customers, career opportunities for its employees and literacy and education support for its hometown communities, according to a press release.

Dollar General opened its 20,000th store in February 2024, in Alice, Texas.

According to a Dec. 2024 story at forbes.com, Dollar General net sales rose 5% to $10.2 billion. That was better than analyst estimates of $10.1 billion.
