Loggers dump Bucs, 9-8; set to host Big Bucks Tourney
Aidan Rose scored four runs, drove in two with a big fifth-inning double and the Libby Loggers held off the Bitterroot Bucs for a 9-8 Western A Legion win Wednesday.
According to reporting in the Daily Inter lake, Rose’s double sparked a four-run inning that put the Loggers (8-18) up 8-3. Boe Miles had an RBI single and Bransen Holzer squeezed home a run in the frame as well.
Back-to-back doubles from Kale Hall and Ian Thom put Libby up 9-4 in the sixth inning — important because the Bucs (3-8) scored four times in the seventh. Caleb Katen’s two-run home run cut the gap to 9-7 and two walks, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly gave Bitterroot its eighth run.
That left the tying run on second, but Tanner Wolfe got the next batter to ground out to Rose at shortstop to end it.
Brody Gilmore, Thom and Holzer all drove in two runs for Libby; Wolfe had two hits. Holzer went six innings on the mound, allowing five hits, five walks and two earned runs. He fanned four.
Miles got one out in the seventh before Wolfe finished up.
The Loggers opened the tourney with a game Thursday against Moscow. Friday, they are scheduled to play Bitterroot at 7 p.m. and Saturday against Mt. Spokane, also at 7 p.m.
The results of the first three days will determine Sunday’s schedule.
