Libby woman accused of stealing money from parents
A 26-year-old Libby woman, Selena Shriner, is facing a charge of theft after allegedly taking $5,680 from her parents.
Shriner was scheduled to be arraigned June 9 on the charge, but her public defender Maury Solomon sought a continuance because her grandfather had died and she wanted to attend the service.
County Deputy Attorney Lauren O’Neill is prosecuting the case and did not dispute her account.
Shriner’s arraignment is scheduled for 1:34 p.m. Monday, June 16, in Lincoln County District Court. She posted bond on June 4.
According to police reports, Libby police responded to a report on May 15 about the theft of funds from a couple’s account.
They showed police bank statements that showed multiple withdrawals at the Libby Glacier Bank location in the late hours of the night, withdrawals that the couple had not made. The couple suspected their daughter, Shriner, who had been living with them until recently.
According to court documents, the couple stated that Shriner did not have permission to access their account or withdraw money, the total amount taken being $5,680.
Police referenced the withdrawal times using video footage from Glacier Bank, and both the police and the couple were able to confirm that it was Shriner making the withdrawals.
Police were able to locate Shriner’s car at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. After speaking with Shriner, she admitted that she had taken money from her parents, stating that she was going through a difficult time and needed an extra month.
She said it had been going on for a while.
A conviction on felony theft may result in a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in jail.
