Questioning the value of Montana’s U.S. congressional delegation
Sending Marines and masked Gestapo-type agents to stop peaceful protests is unacceptable in a free society. Hand-cuffing a U.S. Senator?! The individuals responsible for these atrocities will one day deny their involvement.
Or, respond that they only obeyed orders from Kristi Noem, Tom Homan, Steven Miller or Donald Trump. Do Americans still have a Constitution? Does this solve our immigration issue?!
Montana’s U.S. congressional delegation of Daines, Sheehy, Zinke and Downing appears to join the sycophants who freely support these actions. Tax cuts for the wealthy? Sure. Cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security that Montanans depend on? Why not.
Do our representatives support arresting, detaining and deporting people without due process of law? Assaulting U.S. Senators? Do they support splitting up families, sending fathers to corrupt and harsh prisons without due process, with little chance of seeing them again?
Too many Americans seem enamored with Trump’s promise that “he alone can fix” our problems. Our Democracy requires Congress, the courts and the president to function together in a “checks and balances” system. While politics is a “rough and tumble” sport, we are guided by our Constitution. Congress agreed on an immigration bill in 2024; but Trump pressured Republicans to quash it. Instead, Americans received illegal arrests, deportations and military interventions.
The cruelty, arrogance and unconstitutionality are the President’s solution. What has Daines, Sheehy, Zinke and Downing done to resolve our problems? Have they met with our communities to get their input? Any objections to Trump’s illegality?
One reason is that Trump's positions aren’t popular. His strategies don’t reflect the fairness and honesty most Montanans want from their elected representatives. Are our representatives responsible to an out-of-control executive or wealthy benefactors? Can we honestly say our representatives represent Montanan values?
If Americans want to continue to live and prosper in a free society, it requires the efforts of well-meaning citizens from both sides of the aisle. Nothing good will come from the arrogance and malice of a belligerent Trump administration as long as Republican members like Montana’s representatives continue to rubber stamp Trump’s harsh, unconstitutional actions. The only solution to our problems and those America has created must come from compromise and meeting with constituents.
Put simply, a corrupt President and Republican sycophants are destroying America’s democracy and our checks and balances system.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill” passed by the GOP-controlled House, now debated in the GOP-controlled Senate? It would essentially eliminate the Judiciary‘s check on the Trump presidency.
While Daines, Sheehy, Zinke and Downing bring “ata boys” from Trump and wealthy benefactors, they will bring misery to the poor, welfare to the most affluent and mockery of America’s democracy and our espoused Christian beliefs.
