Gary Chandler

| July 25, 2025 7:00 AM

The family of Gary Chandler, 80, of Troy, Montana is heartbroken to announce the passing of their loving father and husband on July 5, 2025 in Libby, Montana, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Tacoma, Washington on May 11, 1945, to Kenneth and Iris Chandler, the fourth of five siblings.

He graduated from Wilson High School and Bates Technical College in 1963, enjoying a long career as an auto mechanic and carpenter. In 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Staff Sargent (E6). In 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Peggi, and raised two children on Fox Island, Washington.

Gary enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with family, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He often hunted with his two brothers in addition to traveling and riding his beloved motorcycle. After living most of his life in the Tacoma area, he and Peggi built their dream home on the Kootenai River where they spent many years appreciating the natural beauty of the area.

Here they made many friends, were active in their church and always willing to lend a helping hand or ear to anyone in need.

Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggi; son Michael of Troy; daughter Karin and son-in-law Timothy of Vancouver, Washington; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and two brothers.

At his request, he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Arrangements were made with the assistance of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby, Montana. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
