A Breath of Fresh Air: E-Cigs Now Covered by Law
Montana has taken an important step forward for public health: e-cigarettes are now included in the state’s Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA).
This means that vaping is no longer allowed in indoor public places—just like traditional smoking. This update protects all Montanans from harmful secondhand aerosol and helps keep our indoor spaces cleaner and safer.
This change is especially timely. Montana continues to see high youth vaping rates—about 1 in 5 high school students reports using e-cigarettes. These products are often marketed in kid-friendly flavors and can lead to nicotine addiction at a young age.
By removing vaping from public indoor spaces, we’re not just protecting air quality—we’re also reducing the visibility and normalization of these products around young people.
For those who vape or use tobacco and are ready to quit, help is available. The Montana Tobacco Quit Line offers free and confidential support, including coaching, quit plans and nicotine replacement therapies.

Let’s continue working together to promote a healthier, tobacco-free future in Montana.
