Sara Jane Day Hedahl, 77, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2025.

Sara was born in Scobey, Montana on April 30, 1947, and was the sixth child of 10 born to Harold and Dorothy Day. She lived on a farm 13 miles south of Flaxville, Montana and attended school first through sixth grade.

Her family moved to Glasgow, Montana where she attended seventh and eighth grade. She then spent two years in Naples, Idaho attending ninth and 10th grade in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

She completed her high school career in Libby, Montana, graduating in 1965. Sara worked at Murph’s In and Out in Libby, Montana, serving Keith Hedahl a double burger, fries and a Coke, who she then later married on Dec. 4, 1965. They were married for 51 years and 21 days.

While Keith was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas, Sara worked at the U.S. Army Laundry. Upon returning to Libby, she worked as a waitress at the Libby Café, then as a substitute teacher for the public school, found her calling as the secretary of Christ Lutheran Church and lastly as the front desk staff at the Montana Athletic Club.

Sara was active on the Christ Lutheran Church council, church choir, Sunday school teacher, as well as youth leader. She also volunteered at the public schools, Libby Food Pantry and the Irish Fair Committee.

Ultimately, after the passing of her husband, Keith, she spent one year in Priest River, Idaho with her sister Aggie and Dewayne Sunell. She then moved to Spokane, Washington and it immediately felt like home. She had her dream apartment on the sixth floor overlooking the city. Many of the residents and staff at the Altura Apartments were like family.

She is survived by her son, Jeremy, her granddaughter Audrey, her son Eli (Tasha), her granddaughters Scarlett, Violett and Everett. Sara was preceded in death by her daughter Lacie on Nov. 22, 2009, and her husband Keith on Dec. 25, 2016.

“There are many people along the way that makes life worth living but it’s the ones at the end that still care that really matter!” – Sara Hedahl

Services will be held in Libby at Christ Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. (Mountain Standard Time) Saturday, Feb 15.
