Aver ordered to pay county $20,000 for animal care
A Lincoln County man accused of animal cruelty and perjury has largely sidestepped culpability in the alleged offenses, but is still on the hook for $20,000 the county spent taking care of his 11 dogs.
According to a court document filed Jan. 10, Steven David Aver, 64, and county Attorney Marcia Boris agreed to a pretrial diversion agreement that resulted in the resolution of the felony charges as well as misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass to property that allegedly occurred in 2024.
The deal is in effect for a period of four years, two months. It stipulated that Aver had to obtain a kennel license from the county Health Department by Jan. 17, provide proof that the dogs have the required vaccinations and ensured all female dogs were spayed before being returned to him.
