The Fear of Voters…

| August 8, 2025 7:00 AM

A reply to Mr. D. James opinion of Gov. Gianforte et all... by Robert Edmunson.

I agree with Mr. James that voting is one of our rights: it is a civic duty and the bedrock of our Republic and all the more important to preserve and protect!

Sadly less than 50% (more like 30%) of eligible citizens exercise their right to vote in elections. In fact in our last election voter turnout was one of the highest across the board, for young first timers, blue and white collar workers, the elderly and minorities, all in record numbers, with more than 77 million voting for Trump: a truly radical amount of cross over voters, even here in Montana! Now that is what I call not only earning votes but appealing a broader electorate!

Let us admit that our Constitution fully supports and encourages citizens to exercise their civic right (and duty) to vote in all local, county, state and national elections. Let us also admit that any ID that is used to verify an individual should contain basic information needed for valid identification. Issues ranging from no photos, no address, being expired, or being a foreign exchange student, have states tightening up on IDs.

It is not to prevent or make it harder for citizens to vote, but do ensure the individual holding the ID may vote. Not all states have same day voter registration and Mr. James’ numbers show that only about 3,500 people/yr take advantage of this service.

Verifying these ballots delays election totals and these ballots have a higher degree of fraudulence. After the election inconsistencies in 2020, fraudulency is something no one wants and all agree is better to prevent than recover from.

No one cares if a voter is an immigrant, a young person, a minority or even if they vote in drag… let us pray that all voters do their homework and study the issues before going into the voting booth. Let us admit that no one wants fraud to infiltrate elections, especially when we can prevent it. That’s not fear mongering, it’s common sense awareness.

How does insuring that only U.S. citizens vote in our elections become a direct attack on citizens having a say in our governance? It doesn’t It can only help our Republic grow and secure it for future generations. Speaking of future generations, let us admit that reproductive health means having healthy babies and mothers.

Now I agree with Mr. James, DO NOT BE SILENCED, bring to light rigged politics; after all, who voted for Kamala as the Democratic presidential nominee? Why did Colorado and four other states try to bar Trump from state ballots, stopping citizens from voting for a candidate of their choosing?

Tell us Mr. James, what is phony about election integrity or do you favor foreign involvement in our elections? I would think not. I think all of us who honor our Constitution, are proud of our rights and liberties and love this country, want to see our elections be fair and above board.

Robert Edmundson, Libby
