Susan Brenda Smith Grenfell

Susan Brenda Smith Grenfell, formerly known as Susan Gaston, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at the age of 67.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1957, in Redding, California, and spent her life exploring the beauty of the western United States, residing in Montana, Washington, Utah, Wyoming and Oregon.

Suzi was a loving mother to her three children: Tia Sackett, Kari Sample and Craig Mercer. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to eight grandchildren: Trevor, Janessa, Shelby, Braxton, Ethan, Elijah, Jenna and Breanna. Her family was her greatest joy and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Suzi was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Alice Harrington and the late Edward Arvine Gaston. 

She is also survived by her sister Diane Clarke, sister Debbie Butler and brother John Harrington, who will forever remember her adventurous spirit and loving nature.

Throughout her life, Suzi wore many hats. She worked as an aerospace technician, construction flagger, pilot car driver, bartender and treasure hunter. Her adventurous spirit led her to pursue various hobbies, including sewing, collecting cars and antiques, and hunting for treasures at garage sales. Suzi had a passion for life that was infectious. She loved her kids, her cats and the thrill of finding unique antiques.

Living at the beach in Oregon brought her immense happiness and she cherished the friendships and memories she made throughout her journey. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren, encouraging them to live their best lives. 

Suzi’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
