| April 25, 2025 7:00 AM

Trustee elections for south Lincoln County schools Libby and Troy are being held Tuesday, May 6. The Western News is publishing information about the candidates for the benefit of our readers. Candidates were emailed and their responses are listed below.

Name: Lucy Orr

Occupation: Family engagement coordinator for Zero to Five program at Lincoln County Health Department

Family: I married my high school sweetheart, BJ, shortly after we graduated. This year we're celebrating 24 years together, 18 of those married. We have two children - Carson, 17, and Aspen, 14.

Background (boards and committees):  I was born and raised in Troy, attending all 12 years within the Troy School District and graduating with honors. Rather than pursuing higher education, I chose to dedicate myself to being the best mother I could be to our future children. Family has always been my top priority. Throughout my youth and adult years, I've stayed actively involved in our community by volunteering, coaching, working with children, and helping families connect with the resources and support they need.

My roots in Troy run deep, and my commitment to our community is lifelong. As a Family Engagement Coordinator, I connect families with resources that support enrichment, engagement and healthy family well-being. I'm actively involved in several local initiatives, including Unite for Youth, Spring Up Troy and the Troy Public Library.

I'm certified in Teen Mental Health First Aid and am currently enrolled and will be training to become a H.O.P.E. (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) facilitator. I also serve as the Vice President of Fran and Katie's Giving Tree Program and volunteer at the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, reflecting my deep commitment to supporting both people and animals in our community.

Why do you want to serve as a school trustee?

I want to be a Troy School Trustee because I am genuinely passionate about our community, our children and our families. I believe every decision made should reflect the best interests of students and be guided by transparency, integrity and care.

As someone deeply invested in the well-being of our schools, I'm committed to listening, advocating and working collaboratively to ensure a strong and supportive educational environment for all.

What is the top issue facing the district and what would you do to solve it?

I believe transparency is currently the top issue facing the Troy School District. Addressing transparency concerns is essential to gaining confidence and ensuring the district is truly serving the best interests of its students and families.
