Meet Troy School Trustee candidate Eric Storkson
Name: Eric Storkson
Occupation: Digital Solutions Manager - Komatsu
Family: I have an 11-year-old daughter and a fiancé.
Background: I was born and raised in Troy. Graduated from Troy High School in 2003. I was fortunate enough to move back to Troy in 2020 to raise my daughter in this community that I love.
Other boards, committees you’ve served on: I currently sit on the board for Fran & Katie's Giving Tree, I'm part of the Troy Track Committee and I've spent the last three years serving as the vice chairman of the school board here in Troy.
Why do you want to serve as a school trustee?
I love the direction the school is going today compared to when I came back to Troy a few years ago. I feel morale is up, student participation is up, and its just a great time to be a Trojan. Now that I've got the role of trustee figured out, its only fair that I give it one more term. But after that, I'll adhere to old adage of politicians and diapers.
What is the top issue facing the district and what would you do to address it?
Our district's No. 1 issue is always funding. I think most folks would be surprised to learn just how much of our school funding comes from the administration's tireless grant-writing efforts.
But the long-term solution to that issue is to attract more industry to the area and that's outside the scope of the school board. So instead, I'd have to say cell phones in the classroom is the top issue right now, leading to lowered student engagement, behavior issues and lowered test scores.
Removing the distractions from the classroom so our teachers can do their jobs is something I can help correct this term.
