Libby track and field performs well in field events at Iceberg Invite
Athletes from Libby and Troy made the most of their opportunities at the Iceberg Invite on April 17, earning top finishes, personal bests, and key experience against some of the toughest Class A and B competition in northwest Montana.
Led by underclassmen distance talent and seasoned field competitors, Libby finished fifth in the girls team standings and made noise on the boys side with podium finishes in the 800, 1600 and field events.
CAPRI FARMER DOMINATES GIRLS DISTANCE
Freshman Capri Farmer continues to lead the way for Libby’s girls team, and she put together another standout performance in Columbia Falls. Farmer won the 800 meters in 2:28.55 and came back later to capture the 1600 meters in 5:24.31, outpacing a deep field from Columbia Falls, Whitefish and Bigfork. Her time in the 1,600 run rebroke her school record time she has set twice previously.
LIBBY’S FIELD EVENTS STRONG ACROSS THE BOARD
Sophomore Sidnie Thompson had a stellar meet, throwing a personal-best 102-0 in the javelin to place second and adding a sixth-place mark of 29-4 in the shot put. Her javelin mark stands out as one of the top throws in the region for Class B athletes.
Senior Bergen Fortner continued her success in the hurdles and jumps, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles (18.25 season best), third in the 300 hurdles (54.18 PR), and fourth in the long jump with a season-best 15-1.5.
Sophomore Hailey Misner showed her sprint potential by placing fourth in the 100 meters (13.52 PR) and ninth in the 200 meters (28.27 PR). Sophomore Emalia Hartley also set a new PR in the pole vault, clearing 8-0 to finish sixth.
Libby’s depth showed up in the girls mid-distance and relays as well. Sophie Douglas ran a PR 2:39.95 in the 800 to place fifth, and Sierra Gibb followed her with an eighth-place finish in 2:43.58 (season best). Douglas also took sixth in the 1600, giving the Lady Loggers major scoring depth.
WATSON, ANDERSEN LEAD THE LOGGER BOYS
On the boys side, sophomore Cody Watson had one of his best outings of the season, placing second in the 800 meters with a PR of 2:05.8 and taking third in the 1600 meters (4:49.11).
Senior Rowen Sherbo and sophomore Colter Anderson followed with 4th and 10th place finishes, respectively, in the 1600. Sherbo also finished seventh in the 800, just behind top runners from Columbia Falls and Bigfork.
Junior Tristan Andersen turned in a multi-event gem, winning the high jump with a leap of 5-10 and placing second in javelin with a season-best 158-1.
