Beverly Jean Engel
Beverly Jean Engel, 93, passed away April 13, 2025, at Libby, Montana. Beverly was born in Jamestown, North Dakota on Nov. 19, 1931, to John and Irene (Barchus) Engel.
The family moved to Fargo, then to Bismarck, where her father was a nurse at the state penitentiary. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1949 and started nursing school at the Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing.
She met Edwin (Jake) Jacobs when he was one of her patients. She always said he was her worst patient. Beverly graduated in 1952, and she and Jake were married in 1953 and started their family in 1954. Jake worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and the family moved often, with the most exciting place to live for Jake and Bev being Saudi Arabia.
Bev worked as a nurse everywhere they lived. One of the places she worked was Nekoma, North Dakota where she worked as the infirmary Medical Director for Pan American. Bev and Jake retired in 1983, in Libby, Montana. Jake died in 1999 and Bev continued to work until she was 80. She loved her Lord, her family, her church, cooking, baking and most of all, reading. She lived her faith daily.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband; her son David; her parents; her brother Gerry; and many family members and friends. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Jacobs of Libby; her son Terry (Alison) of Colville, Washington; seven grandchildren; and her sister, Gail. She truly lived a full, productive life and she will be missed terribly by her family and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church in Libby, Montana. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
