Troy softball powers past Bonners Ferry, improves to 3-0
The Troy Trojans continued their red-hot start to the softball season Saturday with a 17-9 win over Bonners Ferry on the road in Idaho, improving to 3-0 and showcasing a powerful offense that has now tallied 47 runs in just three games.
Troy wasted no time putting pressure on Bonners Ferry’s defense, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings to take a 6-0 lead. After Bonners Ferry cut the deficit to one with a five-run third, the Trojans responded immediately with four runs in the fourth to regain control.
The Trojans collected 14 hits in the win, led by Ellie Borgmann, who went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Halle Wallace and Kirsti Jellesed both chipped in with two hits apiece, with Wallace driving in four runs. Ellah Wallace also had a strong day at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Kylie Cole added two hits, and Addyson Fisher had a triple. Autumn Fisher also contributed a hit, while Jellesed drove in two runs.
Troy capitalized on seven Bonners Ferry errors to keep the pressure on throughout the game.
On the mound, Halle Wallace went the distance, pitching all seven innings. She allowed just five hits and three earned runs while striking out five and walking eight. Despite some traffic on the bases, Wallace battled through and stranded multiple runners to prevent bigger innings.
The Trojans added runs in every inning. Their ability to sustain offensive momentum helped them withstand Bonners Ferry’s rallies in the third and sixth innings.
Defensively, Troy committed four errors but did enough to back up Wallace and keep the Badgers from mounting a serious comeback.
With the win, Troy remains unbeaten and is off to one of its best offensive starts in recent memory. The team has averaged more than 15 runs per game through its first three contests.
