Jay Allen Basham

Born July 10, 1939, to Lester and Bessie Basham, Jay Allen Basham passed away on Sept 20, 2024.

Jay lived his life in Troy. He was married on Sept. 5, 1958, to his “sweetheart” Alma Price.
He worked continuously all of his life. Working for St. Regis lumber mill, Riedlinger logging, ran his own logging business, Larry Bowmen and many more businesses and local people.

He was known for his dozer and grater operating skills. People say he was the best road builder around and he built a lot of the roads we know today. 

Jay had a few hobbies such as guitar, fiddle and banjo building, which he was super talented. He worked with wood, metal, auto painting, there was nothing he couldn’t build to perfection. 

He loved camping, hunting and fishing. We all called him the Camp Director! LOL

Jay always had a smile to give people when he seen you. He help out many people and the community one way or another.
Jays sense of humor and story telling was undeniably the best! He could “swap lies “with the best of them. LOL

He leaves behind his wife Alma, daughters Darla and Punk Winn, Tena and Dennis Stone, and his son Kelly Basham. Along with the following grandchildren, Fran and Jeff Thill, Darwin and Erin Leighty, Michelle Leighty and Ashlyn Reeves, Tyler and Neek Powell, Dalton and Tessa Powell, Tucker Winn and Maggie Parkin, Brandon Basham, Barton Basham, Benjamin and Lynden Basham, Jamie and Charity Rice, Whitney and Troy Betts, Dennis andTanya Stone Jr., Alex and Catie Stone.
And great-grandchildren, Zoey and Travis Moots, Brayden and Grace Lowery, Jaylee Jayden and Hunter Leighty, Ashia Leighty, Aiden and TJ Powell, Eden Winn, Landen Reeves. Noura, Ander and Callan Powell. John and Samuel Stone. Luke, Max & Willow Betts. Bailey and Emma Stone. Dakotah and Amanda Wright. Dean Basham, Ashlyn Basham and Khalil and Jude Basham
And many great-great-grandchildren. And many many long time friends he called family.
He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, Lester and Bessie Basham, brother Jim Basham, sister Dixie Erhard and grandson Leejay Leighty.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Alma Basham’s, 194 Freeman Ridge Road, Troy, MT.
