David Milton Swenson

David Milton Swenson, 81, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at his home. 

He was born to Clifford and Cora Swenson on July 23, 1943, in Libby, Montana. 

On Aug. 23, 1969, he married Barbara Marie Hill at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Libby, Montana. They have three children, Christopher Swenson (Libby, Montana), Jessica Klepfer (Spirit Lake, Idaho) and Kara Matthews (Libby, Montana).

He attended Montana State University and got a BA degree. He served in the Army and was in the reserves. 

David also worked at various car dealerships in Libby, Sidney and in Kalispell, Montana. He then bought Libby Auto Sales. When he retired David had The Hot Rod Barn. He was one of the founding members of the Igniters Car Club. He was a proud member of the AHRA. 

Through out the years, David had received several awards including Top Salesman, won a trip to San Salvador and won about 70 trophies for drag racing.

David was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Cora Swenson; sister Shirley Swenson; and three nieces Melissa Tevebaugh, Charlotte Tevebaugh and Jodi Caneer. 

He is survived by his wife Barbara Swenson: his son Christopher Swenson (Tina); children Derek DeHaven, Cody Good, Sheen Lehnert; Christopher’s grandchildren Liam DeHaven, Blaine Lehnert, Hallie Lehnert; daughter Jessica Klepfer (Eric); children Tyler and Caleb Conrad and daughter Kara Matthews (Jason); children Hailey and Leah Matthews: brother and sisters Gary, Mary and Linda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There was a graveside service Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at the City of Libby Cemetery.
