Michael D. Cohan

| September 17, 2024 7:00 AM

Michael D. Cohan, 76, passed away on Sept. 3, 2024, at his home in Libby, Montana.

He was born May 2, 1948, at Easton, Maryland, to Arthur and Jeanette Cohan. He was raised in Columbia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Columbia High School.

He later attended Elizabethtown Pennsylvania College and served in the Army. Mike met Patricia (Dahlberg) Cohan and they were married on July 13, 1975.

He started his career as a medic in the Army. Mike then completed the Medex (physician assistant) course at Hershey Medical Center and worked as a PA for 15 years in a private practice while at the same time he was in USAR as a PA.

He loved American History and participated in re-enactment groups of Revolutionary War, Civil War and the French and Indian War groups. Mike made many, many friends through those re-enactment groups. He also loved his country so much that Mike and Patricia always had an American flag hanging on their premises.

While he never had any children, Mike loved to mentor kids any chance he had. He loved the outdoors (hiking, canoeing and camping). His love of books and science lead him to start a business in Missoula called GeoScience Books that specialized in rare and out-of-print science books.

When Mike and Patricia moved to Libby he brought the business with him. After he retired, Mike spent much of his time collecting antiques. His collection contained many mining collectibles, glassware, pottery and books. After losing a leg, he continued to follow all his passions with the exception of hiking. He fought his last health challenge with strong actions that he applied to all his endeavors.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Jeanette Cohan.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Cohan.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
