A strong start to the season for Libby Loggers sports teams slowed last week.

In gridiron action, the Loggers saw their record fall to 1-1 after a 38-8 loss at Polson.

According to reporting in the Daily Inter Lake, Tristan DeShazer scored Libby’s lone TD early in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run to make it 24-8.

But the Pirates’ tough running game piled up 333 yards and added two more touchdowns to set the final.

"It was a great game to do some growing and learning for some of our players," Loggers head coach Kyle Hannah said. "We learned the importance of working together and playing as a team and what happens when we have a few "me's" on the team. Dropped balls and missed tackles were a huge reason for the loss. This week's practice was used to work on the things we need to work on and playing as a family. Looking forward to seeing what we can do for our first home game vs. Ronan!"

The Loggers host their first game tonight at 7 p.m. as Ronan comes to town. The Chiefs used several big plays as they stayed with Bigfork last week for three quarters before losing, 41-26.

Laurance Lozeau had three TDs, including a 78-yard kickoff return, 48-yard run and 38-yard catch from QB Kolby Finley.

Ronan edged Libby, 20-19, a year ago.

In the girls race, freshman Capri Farmer led Libby with a 39th place finish in 21:52.41. Freshman Alli Clemons was next with a 67th place finish in 23:19.11. The girls team was 17th out of 18 teams.

Bigfork sweeps Libby in soccer

For the boys and girls soccer teams, a trip to Bigfork Sept. 5 saw both squads lose.

The boys were competitive in a 4-2 defeat. According to head coach Joe Martineau, Libby’s first goal came off a corner kick by Dylan Warner which Nolan Morris headed in. Ledger Fortner scored the second goal and almost scored another goal, but it was stopped.

Saturday’s game at Stevensville was cancelled due to excessive smoke.

In the girls game, Bigfork won 8-0. The Vals dominated the stats as well as the scoreboard.

Bigfork outshot Libby 18-5 and had four corner kicks while the visitors had none.

“The Lady Logger had some sparks of possession and passing sing during the match,” Loggers head coach Michael Hewston said “They created five shooting opportunities throughout the game. The  possession in combination with the passing and moving with the ball was off center. Bigfork was a dominate competitor and currently performs at a different level.”

Libby hosted Thompson Falls Thursday. The games ended after press time.

Libby will host Whitefish Saturday at J. Neils Memorial Park. The girls play at 11 a.m. and boys at 1 p.m.
