Libby boys soccer squad opens with win over Frenchtown
The Libby Loggers boys soccer team trailed early, but it didn’t last long as they scored three goals in each half to rout Frenchtown, 6-1, Saturday, Aug. 31, at J. Neils Memorial Park.
The win had a bit of a foreign flavor with two goals by German exchange student Danny Waletski and another by Italian exchange student Alex Tomasi.
The Broncs led 1-0 with an early goal, but the momentum became all Libby’s as Waletski, a senior, scored to tie the game.
Senior Dylan Warner found the back of the net next to make it 2-1 and the Loggers (1-0) never looked back. A third first-half goal by senior Aaron Thomas made it 3-1 at halftime.
Waletski opened the second half with a goal to make it 4-1. The rout was on when sophomore Isaiah Barks buried a shot for a 5-1. Tomasi, a junior, put the icing on the cake to set the final at 6-1.
Assistant coach Steve Morris also said sophomore keeper JJ Fosgate made four saves and he credited the team approach the Loggers used.
Libby played at Bigfork Thursday, but the game ended after press time. The Loggers were scheduled to play at Stevensville Saturday.
Libby’s next home game is Sept. 12 against Thompson Falls.
